This (yet incomplete) page will collect essays, academic articles and reports I'm writing or have published.  A mistake on the part of our file host has left some of the links and docs temporarily homeless.  We'll fix this as soon as possible.  In the meantime, feel free to email maybarduk@gmail.com for copies of any of these docs.

Comments on the proposed Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement.  Public comments submitted on behalf of Essential Action to the Office of the United States Trade Representative, March 21, 2008.

WTO Allows Broad Grounds to Copy Patented Medicines (LTE in The Hill, June 5, 2007).

Proposal for creation of a Health Access Initiative at the Blum Center for Developing Economies (May 1, 2006).

A People's Health System (Multinational Monitor, October 2004).
First English language investigative report on Venezuela's Misión Barrio Adentro.

The Emperor Has No Clothes (Washington Times LTE, February 8, 2004).

Congress Should Provide Easy Web Access to Voting Records (Op-Ed in The Hill, January 13, 2004, for the Congressional Voting Record Project).

Michael Powell's Mistake (Williamsburg Daily Press, June 2003). Op-ed followed by a letters to the editor exchange with a William and Mary law professor.

Chairman Powell's Problem (Baltimore Chronicle, December 2003). This op-ed sides with consumer groups on media ownership rules debated by the FCC. I should note the landlord-tenant line is Ralph Nader's metaphor.

Economic Costs of Restrictions on Civil Liberties (Public Comments to the Office of Managament and Budget, April 3, 2003).

The Word "Tragedy" and September 11th (LTE in Philadelphia Inquirer, Fall 2002).

Studying, officially, anthropology and, unofficially, activism at the College of William and Mary from 1998 to 2002, I published a number of op-eds in the Flat Hat, the student newspaper. They became part of our campus cultural and political debates; an evolution that continues at William & Mary in the present. Looking back more than five years, I find I would phrase some of my points differently - with more empathy, sensitivity, context or nuance - but many of the basic insights still hold, and indeed could benefit policy debates and personal discussions today.

Ethics at Graduation (April 26, 2002)

The Spectacle of Street Protest (February 12, 2002)

A Call for Patience (September 11, 2001)

Contentious History at the College (September 7, 2001)

Our Words of Insincerity (April --, 2001)

For Pluralism and Third Parties (November 3, 2000)

Gender and difference (September 29, 2000)

The Help Ethic (September 1, 2000)
